The Carb Fasting Hub
Teach your body
to burn fat —
not just glucose.
Carb fasting alternates near-zero-carb days with normal-carb days so your body relearns to burn fat — without you giving up the carbs you love. This is the clear, honest, science-checked guide to doing it well.
Definition
Carb fasting (noun) — a metabolic protocol that alternates near-zero-carb days with normal-carb days to rebuild metabolic flexibility — so your body burns fat without you giving up carbs.
Carb Fasting 101
How it actually works
Your body prefers to run on glucose from carbohydrates. Take that fuel away, and it turns to a backup source it always has on hand: stored fat. Here's the switch.
Deplete
Lower your carbohydrates and your body burns through its stored glucose (glycogen) within a day or two.
Day 1–2
Switch
With glucose scarce, your liver ramps up fat-burning and begins producing ketones as an alternative fuel.
Day 2–4
Adapt
Over days to weeks your body grows more efficient at using fat for energy — often called becoming “fat-adapted.”

FAQ
Common questions
Short, honest answers to what people ask most before they start.
Still unsure? Talk to an expert 01 Is carb fasting the same as keto?
They overlap, but they aren't identical. Keto keeps carbohydrates very low all the time to stay in ketosis. Carb fasting is broader — it includes cycling carbs up and down and using shorter low-carb windows, which many people find more flexible and sustainable.
02 How long does a carb fast last?
It varies. Some people use a daily low-carb window; others cycle across the week. There's no single rule — the right length depends on your goals, your activity level, and how your body responds.
03 Will I lose muscle?
Eating enough protein and doing resistance training help protect muscle while your body shifts toward burning fat. Carb fasting isn’t about eating less of everything — protein and overall nutrition still matter.
04 Is it safe for everyone?
For most healthy adults, cutting back on refined carbs is reasonable. But if you're pregnant, managing diabetes, taking medication, or have a history of disordered eating, talk to a qualified healthcare professional before starting.
